Do you have difficulty getting up from chairs, sofas or beds?
To determine the correct height of the furniture for you:
  1. Sit on the furniture.

Have someone measure the distance from the floor to the seat. (It is necessary to measure the height of the seat when you are sitting on it because softer seats collapse more than firm seats.)

  2. Then, stand up.

Have someone measure the distance from the floor to the top of your knee cap.
The distance between the floor to the seat (A) should be the same as the distance from the floor to the top of your kneecap (B).

Adjustments:

For furniture:
  • Most furniture is too low. Add firm pads to the seat of the chair or the sofa. Use sturdy bed blocks under the legs of the sofa or the bed.
For toilets:
  • Install a raised toilet seat, and/or install grab bars.
