Soil Assessment Guide for New City Community and Allotment Gardens
  • Toronto Public Health is developing a guide to help City staff assess new garden sites and develop appropriate actions to reduce gardeners' exposures to soil contaminants.
  • This guide will make it easier to open new community and allotment gardens on City lands.
  • The guide outlines no and low cost actions gardeners can take to reduce their exposures to soil contaminants. Many of these activities are part of regular good gardening practices (for example, washing hands and produce; adding compost and soil).
The initiative is summarized in the Staff Report:
