Proposed Elimination of the Census Long Form: Impact on Toronto Public Health

Our mission is to reduce health inequalities and improve the health of the whole population. Information derived from the census long form acts as a compass to guide us on our mission. The Federal Government’s proposal to eliminate the census long form will compromise fundamental principles for public health practice including identifying priority populations and using evidence to develop policies and plan services aimed at making our population healthier.

Toronto Public Health is joining a diverse and growing community of health professionals, academics, business leaders and many others in calling on the federal government to continue with the mandatory long form to gather important information from Canadians.
