  One on One Mentoring Program

One on One
You can make a difference, mentor a child In 1996 the City of Toronto initiated a mentoring program in partnership with the City's Elementary Schools to provide each child in the program with a strong supportive role model in a positive, trusting relationship.

The history of mentorship suggests that these relationships have a beneficial effect on a child's personal growth, and reward mentors with a sense of fulfilment from having a chance to make a difference in a child's life.

The One on One mentoring program provides a student in grades 1 - 8 with an adult mentor who volunteers one hour a week at a school. The program helps students overcome challenges, achieve their potential, and stay in school.

Our goals are:
  • To provide an additional role model in the life of a child
  • To build self-confidence in children in order to:
    • improve overall school performance
    • develop improved attitudes about their school experience
    • enhance social skills
    • increase positive problem-solving and coping skills
