Local Health Committees provide advice to the Toronto Board of Health on policies, priorities and programs to address local and emerging health needs in the City of Toronto. For example, Local Health Committees have provided advice on issues including caffeine consumption in Toronto schools, improving water quality at a beach in east-end Toronto, improving access to basic dental services, health promotion programs for vulnerable seniors and Toronto Public Health's Strategic Plan for 2010-2014.
To be eligible for appointment to a Local Health Committee, you must live, work or volunteer in the geographical area of the Local Health Committee you are applying for. The four Local Health Committees are: North York, Scarborough, Toronto-East York and Etobicoke-York.
City of Toronto employees are not eligible for appointment.
