Action on Alcohol Policy
On June 8th, 2011, the Board of Health approved the recommendations in the Toronto Cancer Prevention Coalition's (TCPC's) report, Alcohol, Cancer & Other Health Issues: An Action Plan for Prevention. The TCPC is calling on the provincial government, public health officials, and other relevant agencies "to take action on strategies to prevent harms associated with alcohol consumption, including cancer, other chronic diseases, acute illnesses and injuries."
This report identifies areas for advocacy with the provincial government, including providing leadership and maintaining regulatory controls on alcohol. At the municipal level, the report called on the City to update its municipal alcohol policy and establish indicators to measure and monitor alcohol-related harms.
