Educating to link alcohol to cancer. Advocating for enforceable controls and regulations that restrict access to alcohol. Fostering a wider interest in alcohol policy as the most effective strategy to reduce alcohol-related problems. Continuing to promote Low Risk Drinking Guidelines. |

Targeting
youth to reduce early tobacco use and later cancer risk. Supporting
alternatives to youth smoking. Advocating for all Ontario workers
to be protected by smoke- free workplace legislation. |

Activity |
Challenging
the current culture of inactivity: Medical Officer of Health
"Call to Action." Promoting physical activity as an early and
lifelong habit.

and Environmental Carcinogens |
Developing
a Community Right-To-Know strategy. Supporting a phase out of
eight identified carcinogenic chemicals in the City of Toronto.
Lobbying the City to adopt pollution prevention. |
| Dietary
Risk Factors |
Multicultural
and community-based nutrition programs, including increasing
food access and services. Promoting eating more vegetables and
fruit based on research indicating a possible 20% reduction
of cancer as a result. |
| Ultraviolet
Radiation |
Developing City-wide safety policies for protection against ultraviolet radiation for those who work and play outdoors. Monitoring the implementation of the sun protection policy for the City's outdoor workers to include sun-protective attire and supplies.

Background
paper completed on primary prevention, early detection and screening
of breast, ovarian and cervical cancer. Action plan in development
with focus on priority and hard to reach populations. |
