Coalition Developed a general brochure and information package as part of the communication strategy to create awareness of cancer risks and prevention strategies.
Ultraviolet Radiation Developed a policy for shade and related guidelines for the City of Toronto, approved by Board of Health and pending City Council approval.

Developed a How to Conduct A Shade Audit (PDF file size 1.4 MB) manual

Carried out the City's first sail shade canopy demonstration project in Dovercourt Park on Oct. 1, 2005. Photos available under Media.
Occupational & Environmental Carcinogens Secured funding and carried out a Community Right-To-Know pilot project in South Riverdale/Beaches in order to increase the capacity of the community to reduce levels of environmental and occupational carcinogens.

Alcohol At the National Symposium on Cancer Prevention in Ottawa in March 2003 alcohol was initially left off the agenda. Dr. Norman Giesbrecht, co-chair of the alcohol working group raised the issue and the conference organizers created a working group on alcohol and cancer, thus raising the profile of alcohol at this national meeting.
Dietary Risk Factors Promoting and developing community-based initiatives that support healthy eating.

Publication in the Canadian Journal of Dietetic Practice and Research - Vol 66 No. 4 Winter 2005 Cultural Relevance of a Fruit and Vegetable Food Frequency Questionnaire - Judy Paisley, PhD, RD, Marlene Greenberg, MS, R.D, and Jess Haines, MHSc.
Early Detection and Screening Produced a poster (PDF file size 349KB) and three videos (duration 10 minutes each) in Farsi, Ukrainian and Punjabi with key messages and contact information for the early detection and screening of breast and cervical cancer and awareness of ovarian cancer. Videos were aired on OMNI and Rogers TV and are available to community agencies and organizations by contacting ckrizan@toronto.ca

The Toronto Cancer Prevention Coalition's focus is on public policy and advocacy in the pursuit of preventing the 50% of cancers that are clearly preventable.
