The first mosquitoes to test positive for WNV this year were reported on July 15, 2011.

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is reporting 71 human cases in Ontario.

The risk of exposure to infected mosquitoes still remains high and TPH continues to advise City of Toronto residents to take necessary precautions to protect themselves, especially during times when mosquitoes are most active.

In 2010, nineteen mosquito batches tested positive for WNV in the City of Toronto and one human case was reported.

For more information on Toronto's WNV program or to speak to a public health inspector about WNV related questions and/or concerns, please call 416-338-7600.
