Health Council sees shining example in Seaton House programs
When the Health Council of Canada was looking for an example of sustainable, high-quality health care in action, they turned to Seaton House, a men's shelter operated by the City of Toronto. A gathering and tour took place on May 13, 2008.
A Winning Division
SSHA did extremely well in the recent Public Service Quality Fair (PSQF) awards, continuing a multi-year winning streak. We also showcased the seven winning projects on September 24 at the Metro Convention Centre, along with two other projects that received exhibitor status at the show.
129 Peter St. purchase approved
At its meeting on May 25, 2007, Toronto City Council approved the purchase of 129 Peter Street in the downtown core for use as an Assessment and Referral Centre (ARC) and 40-bed emergency shelter.
Tenant forum
In March 2006, the City hosted a Tenant Forum at City Hall, for 450 tenants from across Toronto.
Federal investment means progress toward ending homelessness in Toronto
Supporting Communities Partnership Initiative (SCPI) is the first allocation of federal money to address homelessness in cities across Canada. Among many other things, SCPI has helped to fund 1,169 units of new transitional housing and 394 new shelter beds. It is the backbone financing for Streets to Homes, the outreach-based program that has housed 730 people directly from Toronto's streets since February 2005.

City Council created the Affordable Housing Office and the Affordable Housing Committee in 2005. Our mandate is to work effectively with all housing stakeholders, expedite housing development, facilitate the development of new policy and work in partnership with the federal and provincial governments.
