As part of its ongoing work to support agencies, Shelter, Support and Housing Administration has developed a number of initiatives to help develop strong internal systems and practices that produce positive outcomes. The resources and tools on this page can be downloaded and used by individual agencies to provide them with ongoing support in their work to strengthen their organization. A Strategic Approach to Fundraising and Resource Development
“Resource development” refers to a strategic and long-term approach of building an organization's resource base. Ten separate workshops in this program covered a range of topics including fundraising, earned revenue initiatives as well as gift-in-kind and gift-of-service strategies. It focused on renewing and expanding an organization's broadest resources - from its donor and volunteer base to its connections and influence in the community.

Collaborating with the Business Sector to End Homelessness in Toronto
This initiative supports non-profit organizations and businesses in working together to bring about positive social change, and more specifically, address the issue of homelessness. The manual outlines numerous ways that businesses can support the sector including provision of: financial support, employment and volunteer opportunities, access to networks of other business people, and expertise in areas such as legal, financial or human relations. They can also purchase goods and services from social enterprises that employ low-income people.

Facilities Management and Building Maintenance
This series of workshops was designed to enhance agency capacity in facilities management and building maintenance and to help agencies understand and operate their physical facilities efficiently, effectively and economically. Facilities Management Guidebook
This guidebook provides agencies with a comprehensive look at the areas to be considered when managing their buildings. A variety of topics are covered including: capital planning, hiring and working with consultants, contracting out, energy management and data management software. Templates and checklists are also provided to help in identification of annual maintenance issues.
Inspection Checklist
The first step in understanding your property is to document all of the building elements at your facility. The inspection checklist includes a listing of the most common building elements and allows you to develop an inventory that will assist with completing a preventative maintenance plan.
Maintenance Annual Workplan
This spreadsheet allows organizations to develop an annual inspection plan based on the specific elements of their building(s). It is very detailed, but can be personalized to fit specific needs. To use this spreadsheet each agency should complete the inventory in the Inspection Checklist and then remove from the spreadsheet any elements not pertinent to their needs. The resulting spreadsheet will provide an exclusive maintenance plan, including how often over a year each element should be assessed.
