Study Area 32 - Eastern Beaches

Project Overview
The City of Toronto has initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) study to assess the causes and impacts of flooding problems in Study Area 32 (see map) and to develop solutions to alleviate future basement and surface flooding. In 2006, the City implemented a Work Plan to mitigate flooding for 31 areas that experienced flooding from severe storms. During the summer of 2008, a series of intense storms flooded many residents homes in the Eastern Beaches area. As a result, the Eastern Beaches has been identified as Study Area 32 for investigation. The aim of this study will be to develop a plan that will prevent future flooding and reduce the amount of stormwater entering all storm and sanitary sewer systems.
The Process
The study will follow the requirements set out in the Municipal Class EA document (amended 2007). It will define the problem, consider and evaluate alternative solutions, assess impacts of the proposed solutions, and identify measures to lessen any adverse impacts. Members of the public and interest groups will have opportunities to provide their input at key stages throughout the study.
