Project Overview
The City of Toronto has initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) study to assess the causes and impacts of, and develop solutions to control basement flooding in the former Cities of North York, Etobicoke and Scarborough. On August 19, 2005, the City experienced a severe storm event that resulted in the flooding of many residents’ homes, erosion in ravines and watercourses, and damage to City roads, bridges, and sewers. Thirty-one flooding areas have been identified.  Study Areas 7, 8, 9, and 10 are currently under investigation.

The aim of the study will be on preventing future surface flooding and reducing the amount of stormwater entering all sewer systems: storm and sanitary.

The Process
The study is being planned under Schedule B of the Municipal Class EAThe Class EA process will provide members of the public and interest groups with opportunities for input at key stages of this study.  The study will define the problem, consider and evaluate alternative solutions, assess impacts of the proposed solutions, and identify measures to lessen any adverse impacts.
