Earl Bales Stormwater Pond, Nov 2011

UPDATE July 28 2011

Due primarily to wet weather conditions which delayed excavation work over the past year, the expected completion date for all major works has been pushed back to August 31, 2011. The contractor is working on the last phase of the project at the end of Westgate Blvd., paving of the access road and planting around the pond. Our apologies for any inconvenience caused by this delay and we appreciate your patience as we work towards completion of this project.

March 2011 Construction Update (PDF)

The City of Toronto is constructing a stormwater pond in the valleylands of the West Don River, east of Earl Bales Park and west of the Don Valley Golf Course. The stormwater pond will help capture and treat stormwater from four storm sewer outfalls located in the Earl Bales Park vicinity. This project will help improve water quality in the West Don River and prevent further erosion along the ravines. It will also supply water for irrigation at the Don Valley Golf Course and snow making at the Earl Bales Ski & Snowboard Centre.

This project is part of the City’s Wet Weather Flow Master Plan. An environmental assessment study was completed in 2007 and recommended the construction of the stormwater pond in Earl Bales Park.

An information session and open house was held on December 14th to present details of the design and construction of this Stormwater Pond to the public.
