Eglinton Avenue West Watermain Replacement

This site was last updated on January 25, 2011

Project Update - January 2011
This project has been postponed due to technical difficulties with isolating the watermain to be replaced from the rest of the water distribution system. Before replacement can occur, several valves will be replaced. Once these valves are in working order, the full replacement will begin. Local stakeholders will be notified about the timelines for construction before any work begins.

The existing watermain beneath Eglinton Avenue West needs to be replaced. The existing watermain was constructed in 1916 using cast iron. It has a diameter of 600mm. The new watermain will be larger, (750mm diameter) and will meet modern construction standards. This replacement will improve the water flow and reduce the risk of watermain breakage.

Two separate segments of watermain will be replaced. The first segment is from Bathurst Street to Gilgorm Road; the second is from Avenue Road to Duplex Avenue.
