The
Study
Toronto Water initiated a study in July 2005 to identify the preferred method(s) for stream channel restoration of the Markham Branch valley of Highland Creek located between Markham Road east to the East Highland Branch, called ‘Valley Segment 4a’. This study focuses on channel and flood plane restoration techniques which provide a dynamic geomorphic form, restores fish habitat, protects exposed sanitary sewer infrastructure, and tableland property subjected to glacial valley wall erosion. In addition, the City of Toronto initiated a broader study called the Highland Creek Geomorphic Master Implementation Project to examine similar issues in all of the Highland Creek watershed. View Notice of Study Commencement (PDF).
These two studies are being conducted under the Master Planning provisions of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (June 2000).
