Jarvis Street Streetscape Traffic Study 2005
A comprehensive transportation study on the area was completed in January 2005. This study assessed existing and future traffic conditions along Jarvis Street and adjacent streets. The study recommended that the removal of the reversible centre lane be further considered. Within the current EA, the physical feasibility of this reconfiguration is being assessed. We welcome your input on this and other aspects of the current study.

Please download the Jarvis Street Streetscape Traffic Study 2005 (PDF).

Key Elements of the Study:

  • Assess the physical feasibility and alternative designs for removing the reversible centre lane
  • Identify opportunities for streetscaping along Jarvis Street between Bloor Street and Queen Street
  • Identify preferred alternative solution to meet the streetscaping initiatives of the City and establish a sense of place along Jarvis Street

Opportunity Statement
The streetscaping opportunities that the City is studying for implementation on Jarvis Street will provide improvements that:

  1. Establish this section of Jarvis as a cultural corridor with an emphasis on its historical significance. Jarvis Street will be established as an important public place, and not just an arterial road for vehicles.
  2. Enhance the urban and the pedestrian environment through fostering environmental sustainability and cultural landscapes through effective:
    • Sustainable sidewalk design;
    • Streetscaping, greening, sustainable technologies (e.g., bioswales)
    • Lighting
    • Public art that highlights significant views and vistas; and
    • Preservation, protection and celebration of the remaining historic significance of the Jarvis Street Corridor
  3. Implement a traffic improvement strategy that allows for effective access that complements the City’s streetscaping and urban design initiatives.
