Park Lawn Road to Long Branch

The Study
The City of Toronto and the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) are examining ways to significantly improve transit service on Lake Shore Boulevard West between Park Lawn Road and the Long Branch GO Station. This is part of the Waterfront West Light Rail Transit (LRT) project to provide continuous higher speed, higher capacity transit service from Union Station to Long Branch.

The City of Toronto’s Official Plan focuses on city-building and creating a Transit City by establishing key avenues for future growth. The Official Plan and the TTC’s Ridership Growth Strategy stress the importance of making high-quality transit a more attractive option for travel. The new transit vehicles will be low-floor and fully accessible with boarding at multiple doors to speed service and reduce wait times.

The City and TTC are currently undertaking a preliminary planning study to evaluate the potential of placing the existing streetcar line in a dedicated transit lane. This preliminary study will be followed by a formal Environmental Assessment of the proposed project.
