Proposed 2011 Residential Solid Waste Rates

Notice is hereby given that City officials are recommending that the Council of the City of Toronto pass a by-law to set the 2011 Residential Solid Waste Rates as set out below effective March 1, 2011:

Recommended 2011 residential annual curbside collection rates per bin

Medium $271.93
Large $369.31
Extra Large $428.36

* Please note that in 2011 the existing rate will apply for January and February, therefore the actual amount paid in 2011 will range from $219.97 to $425.97 per bin.

Recommended 2011 residential annual curbside bag only collection rates per bin

Recommended 2011 residential annual RUAC collection rates per bin

The annual rebate per household for all the customers above will be $224.

* Please note there will be a $15 structural adjustment to all the single family rates which is offset by a corresponding $15 adjustment to the rebate, resulting in a net zero effect to the customer

Recommended 2011 multi-residential bulk collection rates

Base Allotment Fee (per unit/yr) $191.30
Fee for excess waste: un-compacted (per yd³) $13.27
Fee for excess waste: compacted (per yd³) $26.55

The annual rebate per unit will be $185.

* Please note there will be a $10 structural adjustment to the multi-residential base rate which is offset by a corresponding $10 adjustment to the rebate, resulting in a net zero effect to the customer

To assist in scheduling, if you wish to address the Budget Sub-Committees, please notify the City Clerk, Budget Committee, by calling 416-392-1032 or 416-397-7768, or e-mail buc@toronto.ca no later than 12 p.m. on January 18, 2011, indicating your preferred date and location. There will be a 5 minute time limit for each presentation.

To submit written comments to the Budget Sub-Committees, pleasesend your letter to Merle MacDonald, City Clerk's Office, Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen Street West, 10th floor, West Tower, Toronto, ON M5H 2N2, by e-mail buc@toronto.ca or fax 416-392-1879. Any comments received after the Sub-Committee and Budget Committee meetings will be processed to Council.

The Budget Committee will make its final recommendations on February 10, 2011, which will be forwarded for Executive Committee's consideration at its special meeting on February 17, 2011 and to City Council at its meeting on February 23 to 28, 2011. The adopted fees will be implemented through a by-law that will amend the Municipal Code.

While the 2011 Residential Solid Waste Rate Report sets out the recommended rate, the appropriate Committee may change these recommendations and Toronto City Council may adopt rates that differ from the recommendations, including rates that are higher or lower than the rates set out above.
