About Live Green Toronto Volunteers

How we started

In 1996, a volunteer program called the Waste Watchers was created to aid the City of Toronto in achieving its waste diversion targets of the day. The program continued to grow and broadened its focus to include many other environmental issues that affected the City of Toronto. As a result, Waste Watchers changed its name to the Toronto Environmental Volunteers.

Where we are today

In 2009, the program joined the Toronto Environmental Office and became responsible to bringing Live Green Toronto programs and messaging to the public. To symbolize this next step in its evolution, in 2010 the program was re-launched as the Live Green Toronto Volunteers.
