Green Roofs

Look up – Toronto’s green roof movement is growing. Planting grasses or other plants on roofs will cool buildings in summer and keep heat from escaping in winter. What’s more, they reduce stormwater runoff, help improve air quality and more.

Green Roof Bylaw

In 2009, Toronto became the first City in North America to adopt a bylaw that requires and governs the construction of green roofs on new development. The bylaw applies to all new building permit application made as of January 31, 2010. http://www.toronto.ca/greenroofs/overview.htm

Eco-Roof Incentive Program

Financial incentives are available to help install green and cool roofs on Toronto’s commercial, industrial and institutional buildings.
