Downspouts and Rainbarrels

Disconnect your downspout and use a rainbarrel. You’ll save money when watering your garden and make your plants happier too!

Disconnect your downspout

Disconnecting your downspout and diverting rain water to your garden or rain barrel is an excellent way to capture water and reuse it for irrigation. You'll also help reduce sewer overflows and protect our water.

For instructions on how to disconnect your downspout, see Toronto Water’s Guide to disconnecting your downspout.

Collect your rain water – use a rainbarrel!

Your lawn and garden will thrive on the rain water you capture in your rainbarrel more than on treated water from your tap. After you’ve disconnected your downspout connect it to a rain barrel. You can pick up a rainbarrel at a reduced cost at your local Community Environment Day.
