Toronto Long-Term Care Homes and Services has a long-established commitment and openness to working with the community and inviting them into our homes. We believe that these relationships bring richness to our environments, helping to shape a unique culture while promoting public accountability.
We are proud of the history and work of the Advisory Committee on Long-Term Care Homes and Services, that operates on a division-wide basis, to provide advice and community input about services and quality of life enhancements throughout the division.
Members of the Advisory Committee on Long-Term Care Homes and Services also take part in our strategic planning, provide community input into our quality management program and assist us in maintaining effective relationships with key community stakeholders.
The Committee has broad community representation, enhancing our community connections, assisting our work in community needs assessment and facilitating effectiveness in systemic advocacy.
Each home also has its own advisory committee. The purpose of the Home Advisory Committee is to act in an advisory capacity to advise the Administrator and home management on residents' quality of life issues and to make suggestions about local community need that the home may be able to respond to.
The Committees also act as systemic advocates and promote effective community linkages. While members of each Home Advisory Committee bring their own skills and expertise to the table, they are supported in their work by receiving regular reports from the Residents' Council and Family Committee.
This allows the Home Advisory Committee to remain current and updated on the internal community in the home. Each Home Advisory Committee has a unique opportunity to be informed and aware of resident and family member concerns, issues or suggestions, while balancing this perspective with the larger local community.
On average, both the Advisory Committee on Long-Term Care Homes and Services and the local Home Advisory Committees meet monthly. The Advisory Committee on Long-Term Care Homes and Services receives regular reports from each of the Home Advisory Committees as well as key reports from divisional staff.
Approximately every other month, the Chairs (or designates) of the individual Home Advisory Committees meet at Inter-Home Advisory Committee meetings to share experiences and successes, learn together and hear updates from the General Manager.
Each of our advisory committees has the opportunity to enrich the culture of our homes and the care and service that we provide. We are proud of our advisory committee system, which previously won the prestigious United Nations Habitat Award for effective community engagement.
If you would like more information about community involvement in our advisory committees, we'd love to hear from you.
