On September 2, I was pleased to launch Mayor's Tower Renewal - an exciting initiative that combines elements of community development, environmental protection and prosperity for the benefit of the residents living in the hundreds of decades-old concrete slab apartment towers.

* * Online petition for Canada-wide handgun ban
Toronto is a safe city but we continue to face unacceptable incidents of gun violence. There is something we can do as Torontonians and as Canadians. Join the campaign to have handguns banned in Canada. The campaign's centre-piece is an online petition.

76th annual U.S. Conference of Mayors
I addressed the 76th annual U.S. Conference of Mayors in Miami on June 22 about Toronto's leadership as a clean, green city. I took the opportunity to speak about Toronto's Climate Change and Environmental initiatives. You can see a video of the presentation.

Chair of C40 group cities fighting climate change
I am proud and privileged to have been given the chance to lead the C40 and work with cities around the world who are leading in the fight against climate change. Where national governments are falling short, cities are taking action and achieving results. Climate change is the issue of our time, possibly of all time, and through the C40, we have an opportunity to make real and lasting difference on this pressing global issue.

    Agenda for Prosperity
In June 2006, my Economic Competitiveness Advisory Committee came together in partnership to develop a plan of action for Toronto. The plan presents an achievable vision for growing the city's long-term prosperity and position Toronto as a leading global city of the 21st century.

    What makes a great city?
To me, a great city is one that is known around the world for the quality of life it offers its citizens. It's safe, strong, creative and clean. It has a great transit system. And a great city leaves no one behind by creating opportunity for all.
