Hundreds of thrill-seekers raced through the streets of Toronto’s financial district September 7 in a bid to win the world’s first Running of the Moose powered by Labatt Blue!

"The world’s never seen anything like this before!" exclaimed Toronto’s Mayor Mel Lastman "It’s an incredible sight! These moose can really move!"

Running of the Moose powered by Labatt Blue called upon corporate teams of 12 to race colourful, life-size moose sculptures, souped-up with all terrain wheels, down Toronto’s Bay Street to raise money for the United Way of Greater Toronto. The event is one of the many fundraising endeavours of Moose in the City presented by Labatt Blue, Toronto’s extraordinary outdoor exhibition of life-size moose sculptures

"We’re absolutely thrilled with this wonderful initiative by Labatt Breweries of Ontario and the City of Toronto," commented Anne Golden, President of United Way of Greater Toronto, "Not only has it raised over $40,000 for United Way, it has also provided excellent exposure for the launch of this year’s campaign!"

The race saw Bay Street transformed into an unforgettable festival arena, with thousands of cheering spectators, live Spanish music, authentic Spanish matadors and outlandish race commentary by Canada’s favourite comedy duo, Royal Canadian Air Farce stars Roger Abbott and Don Ferguson.

George Cohon, Chairman of Moose in the City, couldn’t hide his enthusiasm. "Thirty-three teams rose to the challenge and registered for this unbelievable race." he exclaimed, "They’ve had the time of their lives while helping a great cause!"

At the end of the day, first prize was awarded to Otis Sauter Partners Inc., with Royal Bank of Canada placing second, Group Telecom placing third and Everest Broadband Networks coming in fourth.

"We’re very proud of what the Moose in the City exhibition has done for Toronto." commented Paul Shugart, Director of Corporate Properties for Labatt Breweries of Canada, as he presented the grand prize at the Running of the Moose awards ceremony. "Not only is it providing wonderful entertainment for local residents and visitors to our great city, it is also raising a lot of much needed money for local charities."
