Congratulations to the 2010 Mayor's Community Safety Award Winners

Five outstanding projects were honoured for their contributions to community safety inside City Hall at the 9th Annual Mayor's Community Safety Awards. Each of the winners was presented with a $1,000 cheque, sponsored by Bell, to help them continue the work they have started. Find out who won here.

Walk Safe program launches in the Mornelle Court community

It's only a short walk from Mornelle Court to Military Trail Public School, but many parents have expressed concerns for their children's safety. They are primarily from parents who can't accompany their children because of early working hours or those with strollers or physical disabilities who find the steep set of stairs leading from the community to the school to difficult to manage. But thanks to the Mornelle Court Residents Action Coalition and their brand new Walk Safe Program, parents can rest assured that their kids will get to and from school safely.

Westview Centennial, a Toronto high school located in the heart of the Jane and Finch community hosted We Are All BeLovEd. This educational and interactive forum was created by the BeLovEd Movement to raise awareness about violence against young women, encourage healthy relationships and also celebrate International Women's Day.

Inspire Connect Achieve

The City of Toronto hosted Inspire Connect Achieve, inside City Hall, hounouring Black history and heritage while exposing about 150 young people to new career opportunities and professional connections.

The event was Co-MC'd by Farley Flex, Music Producer and Canadian Idol Judge and Michael Opuko, a young CEO and Entrepreneur. Mayor Miller was also there to greet the participants and kick off the day's events.

O'Connor-Parma Court community celebrates!  Another POL Fund project is completed

Hundreds of O'Connor-Parma Court community members gathered to celebrate the re-opening of their newly renovated O'Connor Community Centre. Members of Youth Vybes, a local community group, who was very active throughout the entire process, beamed with pride as they conducted tours of the centre which now boasts a huge youth-friendly space, community meeting rooms, a new and improved pre-school room, an expanded workout area stocked with new equipment and a stunning new gymnasium floor.

Check out the STOMP Urban Dance Competition/Showcase 2010

The City of Toronto presents the 9th Annual STOMP Dance Competition and Showcase on Saturday, May 29 from 1-6 p.m. at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Exhibition Place, 210 Princes Blvd. A talented line up of dancers and dance crews between the ages of 6 and 24 years old will be performing a variety of urban dance styles: b-boy, break, hip hop, dancehall, jazz and contemporary. Congratulations to the 2009 Identify 'N' Impact Award Winners

The Identify 'N' Impact Awards celebrate the valuable contributions young people make to communities throughout Toronto and the important role youth play as advocates, visionaries and agents of social change. They are open to youth aged 13 to 24 or any youth-led organization with a focus on working with young people in the City of Toronto. The awards are sponsored by the Toronto Youth Cabinet (TYC) and the City of Toronto. This year's winners were honoured on October 28, 2009 at the Lula Lounge.

Two neighbourhood youth councils affect change in their communities

The ProTech Youth Advisory Council (PYAC) and the Dorset Park Youth Council (DPYC) have something in common. Both groups witnessed their hard work, thorough research and weekly meetings become a reality this summer with the opening of the Kennedy-Eglinton ProTech Media Centre and McGregor Park Diverse Sports Pad.
