Clairville Day Camp

This OCA accredited camp offers children and youth an opportunity to experience summer in the great outdoors. Located in Claireville Conservation Area, the camp brings the experience of an overnight camp to a day camp setting. Campers will spend fun-filled weeks enjoying nature and participating in all of their favourite camp activities including: archery, nature crafts, hiking, orienteering, overnights, sports clinics, camplore, campfires, swimming, outdoor cooking, pond studies, and low ropes


Integration

We welcome children with special needs. To avoid disappointment and to ensure proper placement, call the Claireville Day Camp office at 416-394-8546 for an integration camper registration package. SPACES ARE LIMITED.

The compatibility of Claireville Day Camp with special needs campers will be assessed on a camper by camper basis due to the unique nature of Claireville’s setting and program.

Adventure Camp (6-10 yrs)

Spend time enjoying activities in the great outdoors including nature crafts, swimming, group games, low ropes adventure course and special events. Campers 8 years and older may register for an optional overnight camp out.

Sports Camp (7-12 yrs)

Offering a unique blend of sports and outdoor activities. Campers have the opportunity to develop skills in many sports – baseball, soccer, cricket, lacrosse and flag football. Special guests and sports clinics are a part of this program. A portion of each day will include outdoor activities such as archery, orienteering, environmental activities, cooking and hiking. Campers 8 years and older may register for the optional overnight camp out.

Drama Camp (11-13 yrs)

A fun and interactive way to build drama skills, increase confidence levels and perform for campers and parents at the end of each session. A portion of each day will include outdoor activities such as archery, orienteering, environmental activities, cooking and hiking. Campers 8 years and older may register for the optional overnight camp out.

Nature Explorers (11-13 yrs)

Participate in traditional outdoor activities and take part in daily nature hikes to less explored areas of Claireville, create eco-friendly crafts and take part in eco programming from the staff at the TRCA who maintain Claireville Conservation Area. These and other special guests will visit the Nature Explorers to share their knowledge and experience. Campers 8 years and older may also register for the optional overnight camp out.

Challenge Plus Youth Camp (11-14 yrs)

Offering youth a stimulating environment filled with outdoor challenges, group interaction and lasting friendships. Participants are invited to challenge themselves through a full range of activities including shelter building, survival skills, crafts, orienteering, sports and swimming. Campers will have the opportunity to put their outdoor skills to use on a compulsory three day, two night camping trip.

Leadership Camp/Girls’ Leadership (13-14 yrs)

Designed to develop communication, team building and problem solving skills that will allow participants to build a solid foundation of leadership, knowledge and develop a better understanding of themselves and the environment. An excellent preparation for those interested in the Volunteer Squad. Campers may also register for the optional overnight camp out.

Volunteer Squad (15-16 yrs)

A three week skills development program combining training and practical experience. Develop an understanding of specific leadership skills seen as an asset for potential employment with the City of Toronto. Weeks one and two will combine theoretical leadership knowledge with traditional camp activities. Week three will consist of practical experience and leader shadowing. During their practical experience the participants will be acting in a volunteer capacity, these hours can be used towards their high school community service. V-Squad campers are encouraged to register for the optional overnight camp out. Space is limited. Acceptance into the program is based on an interview. Western Horseback Riding Camp (10-14 yrs)

Western Horseback Riding Camp (10-14 yrs) Located at Claireville Ranch, this camp offers a good balance of outdoor adventure and horseback riding instruction. Campers will participate in a group riding lesson and learn about horsemanship as well as ride the trails that run through Claireville. Ranch horses are carefully selected and well-trained to be suitable for both novice and experienced riders. Campers will also enjoy activities such as arts, crafts, swimming and special events. Campers may also register for the optional overnight camp out.

General Information

Hours and Extended Care

  • The camp day begins with bus pick up, 8-8:45 am (depending on the bus stop) and ends with bus drop off, 4-4:30 pm (depending on the bus stop)
  • Extended care is available at the Etobicoke Civic Centre starting at 8 am and runs from the end of the regular camp day until 5:30 pm
  • If your child is registered in extended care their bus stop must be the Etobicoke Civic Centre

Lunch

  • Campers need to bring a literless, nut-free, lunch and drink each day
  • Insulated lunch bags are recommended
  • Juice and water are provided throughout the day, however campers must bring their own reusable container

Overnights at Claireville

Always popular, an optional overnight is offered the second Wednesday of every session for participants of volunteer squad, sports, adventure, drama, nature explorers, riding and leadership/girls’ leadership who are eight years of age or older. Campers will enjoy learning how to pitch a tent, enjoy a campfire, and take part in a specially designed evening program. If the weather conditions are inclement, the overnight will be moved to an indoor recreation centre. Campers who wish to participate in the over night must register through the standard registration methods or by calling the Claireville Day Camp Office 416-394-8546.

Off-Site Overnights

An exciting feature of Challenge Plus Camp is an essential three day, two night overnight to an alternate camp site location. Transportation is provided by bus from Claireville Day Camp.
Please note: Participants of Challenge Plus do not need to register for this overnight as it is not an optional part of the program.

Staff

All of our summer staff members have been selected for their leadership, enthusiasm and passion for working with children. They are dedicated young men and women whose goal is to provide a safe and fun environment for your child. All staff is trained in safety and emergency procedures, first aid, and creative programming.

Swimming

Recreational swimming will take place twice a week for all campers at three local swimming pools. Leaders are paired up with all 6 and 7 year olds in the pool. All campers may take a deep end test at each facility. Some campers, depending on age and/or ability may be asked to wear a life jacket in the pool. These decisions are at the discretion of the lifeguards and are made with the safety of your children in mind.

Rainy Days

Claireville Day Camp operates rain or shine. In the event of a thunderstorm or rainy day, campers will be bused to an indoor location.

Transportation

Safe professional bus transportation is provided for our Claireville Day Camp participants. All buses are driven by certified and experienced staff.

  • Morning pick-up between 8-8:45 am
  • Evening drop-off between 4-4:45 pm

Bus routes serve all areas of the Etobicoke York District. Each camper may only register for one bus stop; this will be the same location for drop-off and pick-up. Please note that parents are responsible for the supervision of their camper(s) at the bus stop during the pick-up and return period.
