R.V. Burgess Park measures 15,538 square meters and is located in the heart of the Thorncliffe Park community. This neighbourhood of tall buildings was developed in the early 1970s and has a population the size of a small city. Local residents and the Thorncliffe Park Women's Committee partnered with the City's Parks, Forestry and Recreation Department to revitalize this important neighbourhood park. New playgrounds, a community garden, a splash pad, tandoor oven, paved paths and hard-packed dirt paths offer lots of opportunities for recreation and play. In February 2013, R.V. Burgess became the first Canadian park recognized as a Frontline Park by City Parks Alliance, an international urban park advocacy organization. Regular arts and cultural events, weekly bazaars throughout the summer and lots of family entertainment help neighbours meet neighbours and encourage children to get out and enjoy all the park has to offer
