"Remembrance Week"

November 4 - 11, 2001

WHEREAS: the incredible loss of life in wartime must never be forgotten; and
WHEREAS: on November 11th each year we gather as a community to remember and thank those who fought for peace and freedom overseas and on the home front; and
WHEREAS: remembering the many Canadians who gave their lives for their country, gives us an opportunity to commit ourselves to lasting peace at home and around the world; and
WHEREAS: we proudly wear the poppy in tribute to those brave men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice; and
WHEREAS: in the City of Toronto we honour and thank the veterans who are with us and we pay tribute to the wartime sacrifices made overseas and at home by all Canadians.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council, and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim November 4 - 11, 2001 as "Remembrance Week".
