"ArtsWeek"

September 21 to 29, 2002

WHEREAS: the arts are a unifying force in our City and Arts Toronto is a leader in the cultural, social and economic development of our community; and
WHEREAS: now in its 16th year, ArtsWeek is the largest multi-disciplinary, neighbourhood based festival of its kind in Canada; and
WHEREAS: this nine-day celebration features an incredible variety of events and activities, offered by hundreds of artists and arts organizations for the enjoyment of the more than 400,000 residents and visitors who attend each year; and
WHEREAS: behind-the-scenes tours of theatres, galleries, artists studios and radio and television stations will be available, together with special performances, screenings, rehearsals, displays and much more.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim September 21 to 29, 2002 as "ArtsWeek", to recognize and celebrate the excellence and talent of artists and performers who keep Toronto fresh and vibrant. I encourage everyone to become more aware of the wide range, quality and quantity of the arts in their communities.
