"Be Kind to Animals Week"

May 5 to 11, 2002

WHEREAS: Be Kind to Animals Week, hosted by the Toronto Humane Society, promotes responsible animal care; honours the outstanding contributions and compassion of people and pets, and celebrates the importance of animals in all our lives; and
WHEREAS: the Toronto Humane Society is dedicated to the care and protection of all animals and the prevention of cruelty and suffering; and
WHEREAS: the doors never close at the Toronto Humane Society. It provides a safe haven for lost, injured, homeless and abandoned animals in Toronto and surrounding vicinity; and
WHEREAS: the Toronto Humane Society offers a wide variety of services including adoption, emergency rescue, micro-chipping, spay/neuter, animal cruelty investigation, fostering and education.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim May 5 to 11, 2002 as "Be Kind to Animals Week", and encourage everyone to be responsible pet owners.
