"Children's Services Month"

May 12 to June 16, 2002

WHEREAS: children are our most precious asset and should be cherished by both their families and by society; and
WHEREAS: the safe and healthy development of children is critical to our future, and the early years of children's lives are crucial in determining their later health, happiness and success; and
WHEREAS: in order to raise healthy and well-educated children, families rely on the help of schools, child care providers, child protection agencies, health and nutrition programs, libraries, recreation facilities and other community services. This network of children's services is invaluable in supporting the needs of children and their families; and
WHEREAS: many skilled and educated people are working to provide the best possible services to children, and the work of the providers of these services should be valued and recognized by the people of our city.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim May 12 to June 16, 2002 as "Children's Services Month" to celebrate the importance of children, honour the responsibilities of families, and recognize the work of those who serve children and families.
