"Community Living Month"

May 2002

WHEREAS: the Toronto Association for Community Living, one of the largest associations in North America, supports over 5,000 individuals with an intellectual disability and their families in the City of Toronto; and
WHEREAS: the Toronto Association for Community Living is strongly committed to the rights and abilities of people with an intellectual disability; and
WHEREAS: Community Living Month was developed as a public awareness campaign to promote the contributions individuals with an intellectual disability and their families make to our communities; and
WHEREAS: this initiative was undertaken a few years ago and today, its philosphy and values of community living are recognized by municipal governments and the Province of Ontario.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim May 2002 as "Community Living Month" in the City of Toronto, and applaud the Toronto Association for Community Living on your hard work and many accomplishments.
