"Dora Day"

| WHEREAS: |
the arts are a unifying force in our City. They add to the cultural and social development of our community and enrich our quality of life; and |
| WHEREAS: |
theatre and dance in Toronto is an eclectic assortment of everything from lavish musical spectaculars produced by commercial theates, to small independent troupes performing in summer festivals; and |
| WHEREAS: |
this year, the Dora Mavor Moore Awards celebrate 23 years of artistic excellence, and like the legendary theatre artist after whom the awards are named, each nominee of the coveted "Dora" has enriched theatre and dance in Toronto and across Canada, with their outstanding talent and commitment to the performing arts. |

| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim June 17, 2002 as "Dora Day" to recognize the incredible wealth of talent in our professional theatre and dance scene and the important contribution these prestigious awards make to the performing arts in Toronto. |
