"Florina Week"

May 20 to 26, 2002

WHEREAS: in 1983, the City of Florina in Northern Greece and the former City of Scarborough established a fraternal and cultural association; and
WHEREAS: this association recognizes the large number of citizens of Florina and Greece, now residents of the City of Toronto, who contribute to and enrich Canadian heritage; and
WHEREAS: their contributions are recognized and supported through this annual event, which provides the community with an opportunity to share and celebrate this rich heritage and culture; and
WHEREAS: Florina Week will culminate with the 19th annual Scarborough-Florina Fraternization Festival on Sunday, May 26, 2002.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim May 20 to 26, 2002 as "Florina Week", and encourage all residents to participate in the exciting cultural activities and events, and celebrate the contributions made to our great City.
