"Gemini Awards Day"

| WHEREAS: |
the Gemini Awards are recognized, both nationally and internationally within the television industry, as one of the most prominent and prestigious accolades to be bestowed on an individual. This important and popular event continues to attract visitors and viewers from all over Canada, focusing attention on our great City of Toronto; and |
| WHEREAS: |
the Gemini Awards recognize and celebrate the past year in Canadian television, distributing awards to those who have been acknowledged by their peers for their excellence in all areas in television, including special awards for unique causes and individual contributions. All these awards truly acknowledge the level of professionalism and quality that our many deserving Canadians demonstrate on a daily basis; and |
| WHEREAS: |
Toronto is the third largest entertainment centre in North America. Our city provides the television industry with an entire range of facilities from mass pre-production to mass post-production. The output, input and, of course, the quality, is constantly increasing and only grows stronger with each passing year. |
| NOW, |
| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim November 4, 2002 as "Gemini Awards Day" and congratulate the Academy of Cinema & Television, as well as everyone involved in and responsible for this highly successful event. |
