"Gold Heart Month"

February 2002

WHEREAS: this year Variety - The Children's Charity is proudly celebrating the 12th anniversary of the Gold Heart Campaign; and
WHEREAS: the Gold Heart Campaign was created by the Variety Club of Great Britain as a special fund raising event with proceeds helping to fund programs and facilities for special needs children; and
WHEREAS: an attractive Gold Heart pin represents Variety's roots in show business and special needs children. Everyone supporting this year's Gold Heart Campaign with a donation will receive a limited edition 2002 Gold Heart pin designed by Disney, that will become a collector's item; and
WHEREAS: generous retailers, local movie theatres and many dedicated volunteers will be participating in the 2002 Gold Heart Campaign in an effort to raise funds for Variety's kids.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim February 2002 as "Gold Heart Month" in the City of Toronto, and encourage everyone to support Variety in this most vital fund raising effort to provide programs and facilities for children with physical, emotional, social and economic needs.
