"Hispanic Day"

September 15, 2002

WHEREAS: events that promote and preserve the heritage and customs or our many cultural groups are encouraged in Toronto. Hispanic Day was created to allow our Latin American communities to showcase, celebrate and share their rich and varied culture and traditions with residents in our large and diverse city; and
WHEREAS: a part of this special event is the Hispanic Day Parade which provides an opportunity for people of all ages, from all backgrounds and walks of life to come together with family and friends to enjoy representatives from different countries to perform their regional customs, music and dance; and
WHEREAS: the Hispanic Day Parade will start at Jane Street from Finch Avenue to Wilson Avenue, and will be followed by a cultural show at Downsview Arena featuring great performances, Latin music bands, dancing and other fun activities.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim September 15, 2002 as "Hispanic Day" and encourage everyone to join in the celebrations.
