"Injury Prevention Week"

April 15 to 21, 2002

WHEREAS: this year marks the seventh annual Injury Prevention Week, organized by Toronto Injury Prevention Coalition, an umbrella organization of individuals and groups committed to promoting injury prevention; and
WHEREAS: in celebration of this anniversary children in grades 5 and 6 from schools across Toronto will attend Rail and Road Safety day at Union Station on Wednesday, April 17th; and
WHEREAS: students will learn about rail and road safety issues and how injuries and deaths can be prevented on our roadways and rail lines.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim April 15 - 21, 2002 as "Injury Prevention Week" in the City of Toronto and urge everyone to learn more about how to protect themselves and their children.
