"International Day of Disabled Persons"
December 3, 2002
| WHEREAS: |
in 1992, the United Nations proclaimed December 3rd as the International Day of Disabled Persons, to reinforce the commitment to improve the integration of persons with disabilities who are often forced into poverty, unemployment and social isolation; and |
| WHEREAS: |
the City of Toronto, in collaboration with organizations of people with disabilities and the private sector, is committed to ensuring that persons with disabilities can exercise their civil, political, social and cultural rights on an equal basis with other people; and |
| WHEREAS: |
Toronto City Council and the people of our city are in the forefront of efforts to ensure that everyone has the right to live in conditions of dignity, respect and peace; and |
| WHEREAS: |
the City of Toronto continues to take a leadership role in the fight for the elimination of all forms of discrimination and disadvantage, and is committed to equal treatment of all people regardless of race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, disability, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, marital status, family status, receipt of public assistance, political affiliation, religious affiliation,record of offences or level of literacy. |

I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim December 3, 2002 as "International Day of Disabled Persons". |
