"Toronto International Film Festival Weeks"
September 5 to 14, 2002
| WHEREAS: |
the Toronto International Film Festival is recognized within the film industry and by film enthusiasts as one of the top festivals in the world. Now in its 27th year, this important and popular event attracts visitors from around the world to Toronto, focusing global attention on our great city; and |
| WHEREAS: |
the Festival previews the upcoming season, screens the best of international cinema, and is an excellent venue for features, documentaries, short and experimental films, and also produces unique and innovative programs for an ever-growing and appreciative audience; and |
| WHEREAS: |
Toronto is the third largest entertainment centre in North Americal, the centre for film proudction in Canada and one of the largest film production centres in North America. Our city provides the film industry with an entire range of facilities from pre-production to post-production. The film industry supports 28,800 jobs in Toronto and generates more than $1.5 billion into our economy annually; and |
| WHEREAS: |
film shoots are a familiar sight on our city streets, but during the Festival the focus of Toronto's film industry shifts from production to presentation. The lines of trucks and trailers on location are surpassed by the procession of limos outside our cinemas, as the Toronto International Film Festival captivates the entire city. |

I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim September 5 to 14, 2002 as "Toronto International Film Festival Weeks" and congratulate everyone responsible for your hard work and commitment in making this incredible Festival a success. |
