"International Hotel Workers' Day"

November 10, 2002

WHEREAS: Toronto's hotel workers reflect the cultural diversity that enriches our great city. Throughout Toronto's history, our people have learned from each other by celebrating and sharing their rich and varied cultures and traditions, and this contributes to the cultural mosaic and success of which we are all extremely proud; and
WHEREAS: as a world class City, Toronto attracts visitors from around the globe, and this generates jobs in the hotel industry and contribues to our economic growth and prosperity; and
WHEREAS: Toronto recognizes the invaluable contribution hotel workers make to our successful tourism sector through the warm welcome, professional and outstanding service they provide to our visitors.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim November 10, 2002 as "International Hotel Workers' Day" in the city of Toronto.
