"International Festival of Authors Week"
October 25 to 31, 2002
| WHEREAS: |
now in its 23rd year, the International Festival of Authors is acclaimed worldwide and is the largest literary festival of its kind; and |
| WHEREAS: |
this much anticipated event is the highlight of the fall season, creating an open forum for audiences and authors to come together around the written word. Having presented over 4,000 authors from over 90 countries, it is a world-class Festival that encompasses every style of literature and showcases hosts and interviewers who contribute to the life of Toronto; and |
| WHEREAS: |
for eleven exciting days, our lives are enriched and our minds are opened as Toronto comes alive with imaginative writing and incredible personal stories. The Festival not only enhances our City's exceptional literary scene, it adds to the cultural, social and economic success of Toronto, and our City's reputation as a harbour for artistic integrity around the world. |

I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim October 25 to 31, 2002 as International Festival of Authors Week, and encourage everyone to participate in and celebrate this enjoyable and outstanding literary event. |
