"Living Rivers Day"
May 5, 2002
| WHEREAS: |
on April 22, 1998, Festive Earth Society was established in Toronto to build healthy river-centred communities through action, education and celebration; and |
| WHEREAS: |
on September 18, 1998, the first River of Light brought the community together to celebrate the restoration of the Riverdale Farm ponds; and |
| WHEREAS: |
on the first Sunday of each subsequent year, Festive Earth Society has produced an Eco Festival that provides an opportunity for the whole family to celebrate the Don River and its communities; and |
| WHEREAS: |
for the past three years, this Festival has concluded the two-week Clean Up the Don Campaign, promoting the efforts of 13 Stewardship Groups from Oak Ridges Moraine to Lake Ontario; and |
| WHEREAS: |
this year, in cooperation with the City of Toronto Economic Development, Culture & Tourism Division, Parks & Recreation and Works & Emergency Services, Festive Earth Society has moved its festival to The Don Valley Brick Works as the first such eco-cultural event to take place at this historic location. |

| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.4 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim May 5, 2002 as "Living Rivers Day". |
