"National Ballet School Day"
October 19, 2002
| WHEREAS: |
Canada's National Ballet School was founded in 1959 and is a world leader in providing the best in ballet training integrated with an enriched academic program; and |
| WHEREAS: |
the School is in the forefront of dance education, constantly evolving its programs to fuse the great ballet traditions with the latest advancements in the science of movement, sports medicine and care for the child; and |
| WHEREAS: |
the School offers programs for dance professionals and local children at its home site and on national tours, and provides training for instructors through a full-time Teacher Training Program and the Art and Science of Dance summer seminar; and |
| WHEREAS: |
the School is located on two historic blocks in downtown Toronto and during this year's Open House visitors will be able to participate in behind-the-scene tours at turn-of-the century buildings and state-of-the-art facilities, including ballet studios, classrooms, backstage of the Betty Oliphant Theatre, The Shoe Room retail outlet, wardrobe, residence and the physiotherapy clinic. |

I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim October 19, 2002 as "National Ballet School Day" to recognize and celebrate the significant contributions this treasured institution has made to the City of Toronto. |
