"National Night Out"
August 6, 2002
| WHEREAS: |
on Tuesday, August 6, 2002, the National Association of Town Watch is sponsoring a unique nationwide crime and drug prevention program called "National Night Out"; and |
| WHEREAS: |
"National Night Out" provides Toronto with an opportunity to join with other communities across the country to promote co-operative, police-community crime and drug prevention efforts; and |
| WHEREAS: |
the Toronto Crime Prevention Association is a community organization that supports "National Night Out" and assists the Toronto Police through joint crime and drug prevention efforts; and |
| WHEREAS: |
the theme this year is "Keep Toronto Youth Safe". The Youth Crime Prevention Initiative, in conjunction with other organizations, encourages people to come out and meet their neighbours in an effort to make our city a more friendly and safer place; and |
| WHEREAS: |
through participation in community oriented programs such as "National Night Out", the Toronto Crime Prevention Association, together with the residents of Toronto, can help discourage crime, strengthen our communities and make our city a safer place for everyone. |
| NOW, |
| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim August 6, 2002 as "National Night Out" and invite all residents to participate in this very worthwhile community event that promotes awareness of crime and drug prevention efforts. |
