"Remembrance Week"

November 5 to 11, 2002

WHEREAS: the incredible loss of life in wartime must never be forgotten; and
WHEREAS: on November 11th each year, we come together to remember, thank and honour those who fought for peace and freedom on the home front and overseas; and
WHEREAS: it is remembering the many Canadians who give their lives for our country that we commit ourselves to lasting peace at home and around the world and resolve that the lessons of the past are never repeated; and
WHEREAS: we proudly wear the poppy in tribute to those brave men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice; and
WHEREAS: in the City of Toronto we honour and thank the veterans who are with us and we pay tribute to the wartime sacrifices made overseas and at home by all Canadians.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim November 5 to 11, 2002 as "Remembrance Week."
