"Ronnie Hawkins Day"

October 4, 2002

WHEREAS: on this day, the legendary Ronnie Hawkins is inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame in recognition of his lifetime commitment to music and outstanding achievements in Rock 'n' Roll; and
WHEREAS: this special occasion provides us with the opportunity to extend our congratulations and appreciation to Ronnie Hawkins for his talent and dedication in helping other Canadian musicians and providing a forum to showcase their talent throughout North America; and
WHEREAS: Ronnie Hawkins is known to friends and countless fans around the world as The Hawk, and is held in high esteem by both international and national musicians and artists, including President Bill Clinton; and
WHEREAS: although best known for his musical abilities, Ronnie is an accomplished actor with many movies to his credit. In addition, to his musicianship and acting, he is a caring and compassionate individual who has generously supported the Schizophrenia Society of Ontario and other charitable organizations.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim October 4, 2002 as "Ronnie Hawkins Day" in the City of Toronto to recognize the tremendous contributions this remarkable man has made to the music industry.
