"Rouge Park Week"

September 30 to October 5, 2002

WHEREAS: the Rouge Park, Canada's largest natural environment park, was launched in 1995 to protect, restore and enhance the Rouge River Watershed from the Oak Ridges Moraine to Lake Ontario; and
WHEREAS: the Rouge Park is a special place of outstanding natural features and diverse cultural heritage in an urban-rural setting, and is protected and flourishing as an ecosystem in perpetuity; and
WHEREAS: the Rouge Park Alliance is committed to protect, restore and enhance the natural, scenic and cultural values of the park in an ecosystem context, and to promote public responsibility, understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of this heritage; and
WHEREAS: the Rouge Park Alliance will be hosting an Awards Night on October 3rd, and member organizations and other groups in the community will be holding events to celebrate Rouge Park Week.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim September 30 - October 5, 2002 as "Rouge Park Week" to recognize the hard work and commitment of everyone involved in the preservation of our fragile watershed lands and the beautification of our City.
