"Royal Week"

May 13 to 20, 2002

WHEREAS: the Monarchy continues to be an integral and important part of our nation's heritage; and
WHEREAS: this year not only commemorates the anniversary of the death of Queen Victoria, but celebrates a very special event, the Golden Jubilee of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II; and
WHEREAS: during Royal Week, the Monarchist League of Canada, together with other organizations, offers a variety of activities and events to heighten awareness of Canada's Royal Heritage among people in our large and cultually diverse city.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim May 13 to 20, 2002 as "Royal Week" in the City of Toronto, and encourage everyone to participate in the events and activities planned to celebrate the week and learn more about this unique and valuable part of our heritage.
